What router.asus.com is
router.asus.com is the name ASUS routers answer to inside their network. On a connected device, http://router.asus.com opens the router’s web interface, which ASUS calls the Web GUI (ASUSWRT), the same page as its IP address: 192.168.50.1 on many current models or 192.168.1.1 on older ones.
HTTP, HTTPS and port 8443
If “Authentication method” in the router’s administration settings is set to HTTPS, the web interface moves to a secure port, by default 8443: open https://router.asus.com:8443 and accept the self-signed certificate warning. If the plain address stopped working after someone changed that setting, this is the reason.
Logging in
Current ASUS routers ask you to create the login during first setup. Older models used admin / admin. The ASUS Router app shows the main settings on a phone.
Forgotten login
The ASUS login cannot be recovered from the router. Reset it to factory settings with the RESET button (hold it for several seconds until the power light starts blinking), then run the quick setup again at router.asus.com.
When router.asus.com does not open
- The ASUS website opens instead. You are not connected to the ASUS router, or a VPN or private DNS is active.
- You are connected to an AiMesh node. The name leads to the main router; if it does not open, use the main router’s IP address.
- The router is in access point mode. It then gets its address from the main router. Check your default gateway and the main router’s device list.
